The judge in Christie Brinkley's divorce trial put proceedings on hold this afternoon, fueling speculation that the former supermodel and her fourth husband may be close to a settlement deal.

Lawyers in the case refused to comment. But when Brinkley was asked if a settlement is in the works, she pressed her hands together as if in prayer and replied, "It's what I hope and pray for." Brinkley and her estranged husband, Peter Cook, have been haggling over custody of their two children, ages 10 and 13, as well as some Hamptons real estate, in a very public divorce trial on Long Island. Before the abrupt break in the trial, witnesses getting ready to testify included two members of Brinkley's security detail. It's not known what testimony they planned to offer about Cook's activities, but some trial-watchers believe it may have helped push Cook and his attorneys into making a deal. After proceedings were halted, lawyers for both sides were seen walking together and whispering to each other.
