The veteran star of the cult TV show Star Trek will soon be telling his legion of fans to “Boldly go… left at the next junction.”

Hollywood icon William Shatner will be lending his distinctive, oddly-modulated voice to a computer navigational device that’s been named after him. At a press launch for the ShatNav, the Canadian actor said: “With the ShatNav, even the most mundane school-run or shopping trip can become a pulse-pounding human adventure - a trek, if you will.

By combining the latest in high-tech, state-of-the-art navigational technology with the mad voice of Captain Kirk, you'll know you're listening to a machine that'll double damn-well make sure you’ll get to where you want to go. As I deliver your directions in my unique, staccato rhythm - Where. Every. Word. Seems to form. An urgent sentence - you can sit back and relax as I guide you to ‘Space – the final parking space.’”

The ShatNav will be released in time for Christmas and will feature a wide range of specially adapted classic Captain Kirk-isms including "Like a poor marksman you just keep missing the exit!", "You Klingon bastard, there's roadworks ahead!" and "KHAAAAAAAAN!!"
