Al Qaeda appealed to the environmental lobby today with an announcement that it would carbon offset the attacks on the twin towers. A team from the “stop global warming” cell of the terrorist organisation has spent the last 6 months calculating the total carbon dioxide emissions from 9/11 and plans to invest in a range of offsetting green projects across the world.
The team has calculated that CO2 emitted from the world trade centre attacks was 4.501 million tonnes. However if the hijacked planes had continued their journey to their final destination they would have used 1.5 million tonnes more, and in addition the team claim that the slowdown in air travel in the aftermath of 9/11 reduced emissions by a further 3 million tonnes.

The remaining impact is relatively small and so Al Qaeda is donating $45 to a hydro-electric power station in India, $20 to a bio-fuel centre in Finland and is also purchasing a worm farm and a leaf composter.
Terrorist experts studying the announcement say that further wind power schemes and re-forestation projects cannot be ruled out.
