BUPA Plan To Sell-Off Hospitals PDF Print E-mail

Private healthcare giant BUPA is considering whether to sell its UK hospitals in a move that could raise £1.2 billion or more.It is thought proceeds from the 26-strong estate could be used to fund expansion of its care homes business, which has 298 sites in Britain.

ROYAL MARINES BASE CHIVENOR, England (AFP) - The 15 British naval personnel held by Iran told Friday how they were stripped, blindfolded and handcuffed as part of "psychological" intimidation during their detention.

A day after their return to Britain, the group said they feared for their lives if they resisted and were threatened with seven years in jail if they did not confess to being in Iranian waters.

Royal Navy Lieutenant Felix Carman told a news conference told a press conference of the mind games he said were used by their captors to get information and confessions.

"It was mainly psychological, emotional. The isolation was a major part of this: a complete suffocation in terms of information from the outside world," he added, describing questioning as "aggressive" and handling as "a bit rough".

Tony Blair believes Iran wants to achieve an "early resolution" to the crisis over the Royal Navy crew through direct talks, Downing Street has said.



A statement was issued late on Tuesday after further UK contact with Iran, including directly with its chief negotiator Ali Larijani. The UK had proposed direct bilateral talks and awaited a response, it said. However, both countries continue to dispute whether the 15 crew were in Iran's waters when seized on 23 March.

Last week, USA Today reported that online sales in November increased 25 percent over those from 2005. If you've shopped for gadgets online this holiday season, you almost certainly found that the camcorder or DVD player you wanted was selling at a wide range of prices.
Why is there so much price variation for the same product? And how come some gadgets, like the iPod, cost the same no matter where you shop?

Egypt is voting on controversial constitutional changes which the regime says promote democracy but the opposition charges curb basic freedoms.

The amendments, which were rushed through the ruling party-dominated parliament only a week ago, have drawn rare US criticism and prompted opposition calls for a boycott.
